Grand Theft Auto countdown

Hookers. Carjackings. Cop killings. That can only mean the return of Grand Theft Auto

It is one of the most anticipated entertainment events of 2008. No, we're not talking about the upcoming Indiana Jones flick or the long-awaited Guns N' Roses CD Chinese Democracy.
On Tuesday, the latest in the 70 million-unit-selling video game series Grand Theft Auto will race into retail, anxiously greeted by gamers determined to climb back behind the wheel of this pop-culture phenomenon. Like its predecessors, it's also sure to enrage parents and conservative groups concerned about its violent and sexual content.
Many retailers anticipating feverous demand for Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV ($59.99, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) will be opening their doors at 12:01 a.m. on April 29.
"We expect Grand Theft Auto IV to be the biggest game of the year," says Mary Ann McKenzie, Future Shop's entertainment marketing manager.
